First up, I’m really really loving this so far.
Absolutely thrilled to have you lovely folks signed up. At last check, 250 of you, which compared to the Instagram following seems small, but for some reason 250 here feels WAY more significant and intimate than 250K on Instagram. That’s a cool thing indeed.
Next, I’ve got a slight issue, that being I’ve realised this thing (whatever it becomes) is going to need a name - so I’ll be having a think about that over the next few weeks as it all comes together.
Do feel free to offer up any suggestions in the comments - look, I’ll even add a button in here because I know how to do that now.
RIGHT THEN, enough faff. Let’s get into it!
I’ve been thinking the Friday post will ultimately be a quick wrap-up of news stories that have caught my eye during the week and, crucially, ones that I have a comic in mind for.
The Weekly Draw?
The Week: Wrapped up and Drawn down?
Hmmm. Will need a name for this as well.
So, with that in mind, here’s the…
As Yet To Be Named Weekly News Wrap Up With Comics:
Another thing that needs a better name is the memorably named comet C/2022 E3 which sounds more like a London postcode than a majestic ball of ice and gas hurtling through space.
The Green Comet (oh, there we go) is currently inbound on its extremely large elliptical orbit around the sun, and will be careening past the Earth this month for the first time in 50,000 years having spent its holidays hanging out in the Oort Cloud which is essentially the ‘Middle of Fucking Nowhere’ part of our solar system, as illustrated here:
As someone who disappeared from home for three years straight, I can relate to what it’s like returning back after being away for so long. Considering our ancestors were living in caves and teasing Neanderthals about being the betamax of humans when C/2022 E3 last swung by, I imagine quite a bit has changed…
In other news, a company in Japan is attempting to revitalize the whaling industry by selling whale meat from vending machines. The whaling company Kyodo Senpaku famously works on behalf of the “Institute of Cetacean Research”, and so these vending machines are obviously all part of the research required to understand the Cetacean, or at least how they taste.
Anti whaling campaigners are obviously furious, and have accused the firm of making a desperate attempt to prop up the cruel and declining whale industry in Japan, while vending machine fans are equally upset that their favourite system for acquiring food and products has been used in such a manner. Meanwhile, the whales are also quite upset, especially the ones that don’t even like vending machines.
And that’s it for this week! Thought I’d start small, which is what I’m saying instead of “actually I kinda just ran out of time and/or comic ideas".
I’m still in the process of working out what extra paying members will receive (potentially a big monthly post) - So be on the look out for that!
Other than that, I’ll continue doing Friday posts for all subscribers, paying or not. Fun, fun!
Till next week…
