Right now it’s 6:00am and I’m finally back in Berlin with either some solid jetlag, or alternatively… brand new getting-up-early superpowers?
So, for the next few weeks at least, I’ll be enjoying the impossible attributes of those insufferable ‘morning people’ and hopefully getting a fair bit of work done while the rest of the world sleeps.
My flight back to Berlin involved three connections for a total door-to-door transit time of roughly 28 hours, which when considering you spend the entire time half-asleep, watching shit movies and eating some fairly questionable food - is essentially no different to a hangover in your 30’s.

In other long-haul flight news, after years of rolling my eyes at them, I finally admitted defeat and bought myself one of those stupid neck pillows and I absolutely hate to report that it was one of the best purchases I’ve EVER MADE. Slept solidly through 9 hours of a 14 hour leg. Just Incredible.
That said, I still refuse to be one of those people who slings it over their carry-on luggage and somehow walks without shame through the terminal with it. No, no, I’ll be hiding that dirty little secret in my bag and subtly pulling it out only when the cabin is in complete darkness for that ridiculous ‘Let’s pretend it’s night time by shutting all the blinds’ bit of the flight.
I also discovered my new favourite type of person on a flight: The Flying-in-Economy-with-the-Attitude-of-a-First-Class-Passenger Type. My god, they are truly stunning. An absolute joy to behold. I couldn’t quite catch everything they were saying to the air steward, but there were complaints, and requests, and LOTS OF THEM, followed by the incensed staring-down of the passengers around them who they were clearly not meant to be sitting amongst, and yet… there they were. What a joy to behold.
Other than making jokes about my long flight and inability to sleep, I actually don’t have that much material this week, perhaps in large part to those very factors.
Rest assured however, that I’m now very happily back in my little Berlin house after a long three months and now have a whole week ahead of me to put together the next edition without any of those annoying Australian distractions like beautiful weather and beaches.
So, till then, be sure to sign up if you haven’t already and I’ll see you next week!
Very much relate to your hangover v/ long-haul venn diagram... that seems to be my life on any given week. I have to fly back to Australia (Perth) once a year and preparing for the 28-hour flight is like anticipating a bout of COVID.
As a huge fan of venn diagrams (yeah, a selfcalled venn-fan) and also of your X/Y graphs, this week was gold for me.
Btw.... welcome back. nice to have you back in town. Drinks somewhen? Here's still some stuff that needs to be signed. 😜
