As far as my creativity and motivation is concerned, I really struggled this week.
This was clearly evidenced by the fact last week's newsletter was not only very late, but also very much a half-arsed, recycled filler job.
I also complained about it on Twitter a lot, because as we all know, complaining on twitter requires very little motivation, (a fact we’re all worse off for).
So, shaking off this Creativity Paralysis Demon is no easy task (nor is any task when you’re in this kind of funk), and friends in similarly creative fields were quick to offer a range of advice:
“Chaz, the trick is to increase the range of your stimulation, listen to new music, go see some art, read a book! Anything but trying to actually draw”
“Chaz, it could also be that you’re overloaded with stimulation, perhaps finding a nice quiet farm and rounding up some cattle could be the thing you need”
This advice, (despite being completely contradictory) did end up being helpful and so it only felt right to document my journey this week from a man staring at a blank piece of paper, to a man excitedly explaining in graphic form how he stopped staring at that piece of paper and finally drew something.
What To Do When You Just Can't Do.
So, yet again you’ve found yourself staring hopelessly at that blank page…
In order to snap out of this creative malaise, you’ll need to complete a series of steps…
First of all, go and check the fridge.
Then of course spend 45 minutes watching an obscure documentary…
Return to the fridge…
Then buy some stuff. Sure, it wasn’t on your to-do list but it does feel like you’re achieving something.
Buying stuff is naturally quite hard work, so next up…
After all this activity it’s probably time for some fresh air…
GO FOR A FROLIC IN THE SUN!
…and obviously you’ve worked up an appetite, so should you see a bakery, drop right in.
…and don’t forget dessert.
Then frolic yourself back home…
At which point you realise it’s already 5pm, which means there’s no point starting anything other than a bottle of wine.
Congratulations on yet another successful day!
I love 5pm
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere! 🥲
